Daily Dingleberry 03-18-12 Two Wrongs Nuh Mek a Right

I want to shine the light on some allegations surrounding the elections. Some accuse PUP of getting last minute financial backing from a prominent person based on the results of bogus polls which determined a win. Some accuse UDP standard bearers paying varying amounts from $400 to as little as $12.50 a vote. Some accuse BOTH of soliciting potential supporters by aiding in procuring  residency/citizenship papers for non-citizens from Guatemala, San Salvador, Honduras etc. The only people crying foul however, has been the PUP proponents. While I champion any attempt to ensure the sanctity of our democracy, it irks the crap out of me that that same ardor isn’t demonstrated among the Opposition. If you want to demand justice for wrong doing, you have to be above reproach.

Aye! So, who is telling the truth? Was Mr. Ashcroft‘s yacht really moored somewhere along our coast during the elections? Did Belize City contenders really buy their way into government? And where is the proof in this digital age? You mean, not one cell phone captured an offensive, “hand caught in the cookie jar” moment?????

I am begging the leaders of both parties to do internal investigations so as to address corruption within their ranks. It does not do for either of you to engage in such worthless behaviour. If you know of such wrong doing, it is your duty to us, as the people you serve to correct it. We don’t need bloody revolution. We have laws. Follow them and restore some dignity to our government because frankly, neither party is a model of what one could consider ethical and upstanding.

GET TO WORK BITCHES! Kick those weak links out, put them in jail and protect our interests. Without us, you are nothing and don’t you EVER forget that.

  1. To me this election was all part of the grander scheme of things to come to Belize. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again.. There’s a bad moon rising on our horizon, bad things are soon to come.
Want to see what will happen in the larger countries around the world? Watch what is happening in the small countries like Belize.
When shit hits the fan, remember CB mih done seh soh fah long time….

Now back to the topic… I know many of the old UDP and PUP people, mainly UDP because my uncles were deep in Politics. Like I said, I grew up in a predominantly UDP family almost all my life. I”ve seen the games they play. I can attest that despite what the Cayo North UDP rep said he was using the money for was just an excuse to do it. Pay people fi dem transport my ass….

I for one am with you Faye.. My big mouth wide open fi keep these fools in check. While I just recently started to get more into political watch and understanding; I am trying to learn as much as I can so I can offer a fight back for the good cause. Together we can do it, we just need to realize that it is US that know better that must put aside partisanship, fanaticism and other suches so that we can clear a path for others.

  2. One of the most ridiculous Anancy stories I have heard so far ( among the many ) is that Ashcroft yatch was allegedely seen on the Harbour or his private jet at the Airport tarmac. This apparently is to Insinuate that this helped the PUP. Oh My God. This would have been just the opposite, according to UDP logic. They have attempted over the years to so demonize Lord Ashcroft and now they portray him as a ” Messiah “. It makes me sad when such mentalities still prevail or are becoming more prevalent. I beg to hear that maturity will one day knock at our doors. Political arguments and its propelling fuel called IGNORANCE is leading our young audience ” from the sublime to the rediculous ” .

    • With all due respect Don Hector, where did PUP get financing for this election? Who was PUP’s messiah?

    • I’m not sure where the PUP got the little they had…but I’d wager they didn’t get it from the same place the U.D.P. did. Yup, the U.D.P. used OUR taxpayer dollars to fund their pre-election feelgood sprees and to fund their propaganda and to pay any costs associated with election day. OUR MONEY. Oh shit, I said I wouldn’t waste time answering you, didn’t I? Oh well, call it a freebie. I figure you don’t get too many of those.

  3. “begging the leaders of both parties to do internal investigations so as to address corruption within their ranks” – what’s wrong with you my friend? You’re asking people to investigate themselves and find themselves guilty of wrongdoing and prosecute themselves to the fullest extent of the law which they dictate and change at their whim. Won’t happen…but I see what you’re saying.

I saw a couple things which irked me in the days leading up to and on election day. The first were public comments from U.D.P. Minister Juan Coy. He was at a public meeting proclaiming/threatening that only U.D.P. supporters would have access to assistance in education, social programs, etc. He went so far as to state that he had asked his CEO at the Ministry to hold off on all human development assistance till after elections, then when he saw who supported him only those supporters would have access to that assistance. It was sickening.

Then on election day Love FM captured video of U.D.P. Minister Salvador Fernandez standing at the gate of the polling stating paying voters to vote for him…right out there in the open. He made no apologies when the news team approached him.

It’s not my intention to enter into a U.D.P. did this/PUP did that argument. Everybody knows the PUP did some crazy shit. That’s why they lost in 2008. If there is to be change it has to start from the Party in power which, unfortunately, is the U.D.P. Sad but true. To come to the point of a long and rambling comment…it doesn’t help the change process when people keep saying…oh, but then the PUP did so and so way back then, as if that for some strange reason excuses the U.D.P. The change has to start with the government in power…that change will then hopefully lead to legislation which will ensure that any subsequent government does what they are required to do – which is simply to serve the people of Belize with integrity, honesty and honour. Is that too much to ask?

    • I know what you are saying about the concept of self monitoring but Mike, no party is entirely made up of unethical people. I can guarantee you that only a few people have the power or are perceived as having the power. Most men and women are of good intentions. But if we all stand aside and stay quiet in fear, then we are more to blame. So open your big mouth with me!

    • i tiyad a talk Fayemarie…left you and Aria now to do that! its not going anywhere! People you are fighting for dont even see it and everybdy have their own agenda!

    • Well this is what it is: today me, tomorrow you. None of us can fight indefinitely…we just pick up where each of us leaves off and so it will continue.

    • Mike I disagree. Change must come from both parties. Do you read, accept and see your ridiculous biasness?

    • sorry…I tend not to waste time answering people who don’t have the balls to give their names and choose to remain anonymous. Apologies. Better luck next time.

  4. Love FM broadcast video footage of UDP candidate Salvador Fernandez buying votes. No one has been able to produce any evidence that Lord Ashcroft visited Belize because there is none. I know a prominent television journalist who got wet trying to stake out the Radisson Fort George Hotel Marina where Lord Ashcroft used to heave to when he used to visit Belize.
Funny how the story has now changed to his private jet supposedly being seen at the PSWG International Airport.
It is also to be noted that both UDP candidates Herman Longsworth and Penner both broadcast on the evening news admitting to “helping” illegal immigrants get naturalized on registered. I agree that the latter matter deserves serious investigation.

    • Well there were private jets and yachts sighted…so who knows and we have a looooong coast Glenn…he could have just as easily been right at Placencia…who the hell knows or cares at this point? the point is: we Belizeans are demanding ethical and upstanding behaviour. And we will get it. Just watch. But better, be a part of it.

    • I agree with Glen and Mike, we are sure that the UDP used resources from the consolidated funds (50k for xmas for each UDP candidate and then 40k additional resources from Ministries before election) so guess who this money belongs to so we acquire additional debts. We the taxpayer have to pay. If Ashcroft funded the PUP at least we as taxpayers do not acquire any debt. So at least be fair in making your assessment. Please don’t look at the issues with your single vision lens. I respect you guys as blogger but your red shades hamper your optics. regards!

    • Im afraid you must not have read my post right…I do believe I clearly stated that people are accusing both parties of misconduct. I am merely presenting what others have said and I asked that both parties investigate and take appropriate action to correct the inappropriate behaviour within their ranks. I sincerely apologize if I failed to impress that emphatically upon you or anyone else for that matter.
