Daily Dingleberry by Fayemarie A Carter
So toucans eat insects, eggs, lizards and berries EXCEPT dingleberries. Everyday, we would like to share some kind of pet peeve or annoyance we experience as we engage with others in political discourse. This way, we can address them without detracting from the posts we make or allow hecklers to derail us unto some tangent. Hopefully, some of you will share your pet peeves and annoyances too :)

So, last night the boards lit up like a krismus tree bc some blasted farinah wrote something about Belize and well, as usual, everybody get vex. BUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! It was hysterical y’all! Check it out for yourself: http://p.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/jan/16/tale-of-two-small-countries/#.TxTJaoyvbYY.facebook (You might have to right click and open it up in another page bc I noticed that this wordpress place doesn’t let the link automatically load) I wanted to get involved in the debates and tell people to calm down but people were so busy being defensive, I decided to wait until the fracas dies down a little. I can’t believe that we got mad at this guy. He only said what we already bloody know! But I suspect the reaction came from a place of shame and denial. It’s fine to live like this if nobody else knows our secret, then we could pretend that everything ok. Typical OSTRICH going on there. I say, if it bothers you so much to see your name in black being painted red, do something about it. I’m glad the secret is out. You can’t do nothing about something you don’t admit. It’s like the 12 Step Program y’all. The first step is admitting you have a problem 🙂

MLK Day. A man died for what he believed in. He had a clear vision. He had a clear direction. He knew the price he would pay and still, he would not be swayed, not by fear, not by intimidation, not even by the thought of the loss of his own life. It is insulting when his name is used to perpetrate lies and hate. It is insulting when we take the gift he gave us and spit on it. It is insulting when we use this day and his name to draw lines between black and white instead of what is wrong and what is right. Martin Luther King was an African American. He fought for the rights of other African Americans, yes. But Martin Luther King was bigger than that. He fought for human rights. He loved all his brothers and sisters. His own people didn’t agree with him about that, but he was insistent that as long as we all were not free, then none of us is free. So, show some respect for his sacrifice. Show respect for his vision. Don’t pick and choose pieces of his life, his message, to serve your less than honourable purpose. If you ain’t fuh all, you ain’t fuh none and you ain’t fuh Martin. Peace, brothers n sistahs.

I don’t like when people make sweeping generalizations about entire groups of people. Those generalizations become nothing more than veiled accusations of the most dastardly kind and it just serves no purpose but to spread hatred and angst. Rebel! It is our duty to change that which we can but rebel FOR something. Today is Sunday, a day of rest for most of us. Give your maleficence a break and smile with your enemy. He’s hurting just as much as you.

Watched “Iron Lady” about Margaret Thatcher and it was a remarkable portrayal. Well it’s Meryl Streep, how bad could it be? But it was so stark a realization, to see this one lady surrounded by barking, patronizing, condescending men. No matter what we think of her, she fought a fight few of us could fathom, much less actually do. So, that brings me to the thought: why do we show such disrespect for our leaders? Ok, Ok…don’t shoot me! You can’t catch me anyway, I fly too fast
But really ponder: what must it be like to be a leader of a third world country, surrounded by the big, intimidating goons of the world? Can you do it? Would you know what to say? how to say it? how to dress? which fork to use? It is a daunting task so before you spew more vitriol and call our leaders horrible derogatory names, take a step back and show some respect, if nothing else for the fact that they are doing what you can’t or won’t. Her adviser said to her “Margaret, if you want to change your party, lead it. You want to change your country, lead it!” So stop talking and start doing lovers!!!!! Or else, sit down and shut the hell up!!!!

I cian’t stand when people propose old archaic solutions that have proven ineffective ALREADY!!!!!! OR they insist it will work bc of some anecdotal evidence OR they fail to take into consideration that what works in one situation won’t ever work in another because they fail to take into account CULTURAL/SOCIETAL factors. Belize is like me 🙂 UNIQUE. As such, we really need to be careful about what changes we implement. Our people are a strange combination of fiercely independent, refusing to be seen as weak or bowing down to authority “nobadi wa tell mi wot fi do!” to very disorganized and under motivated. Figure out how to maneuver that, and you will find the winning solution. In the meantime, STOP REINVENTING THE BLOODY WHEEL!!!!! AND STOP SPOUTING USELESS RHETORIC!!!!

Is it really the 21st already???? Sheesh! Time is whizzing by! Pet peeve today IS: people causing hysteria on these here blogs/Facebook pages about EVERYTHING the government does…remember di likkle boy who cried wolf??? One day, when there really was a wolf, nobody listened. My point? You lose credibility when everything you say is biased. This type of halarism will lose my interest quick because it just sung like sour grapes, ovah and ovah again. People, even the ones you think are stupid, quickly tire of constantly being yelled at “the sky is falling, the sky is falling!” It’s a natural human response to just tune yo ass out. We can’t take it, ok? It takes too much energy to worry and stress out that much. And common sense intervenes to tell us, “hey, we nuh dead yet, let’s go bathe sea”. I love all my people, blue or red or just green with envy. Look around and just for a second, truly evaluate this situation. I’m not asking you to ignore corruption and blatant disregard for the law, BUT LOOK RUNG!!!! We have been chosen as a top tourist destination. Join forces together with other lovers and clean up this place. Do fu yuhself and cash in on the good publicity we are getting. Bank that lovers!

It bothers me when the people capable of change refuse to acknowledge the burdens other people must overcome. We need to walk in other people’s shoes and truly understand the forces we are fighting. Poverty is not the true battle. Poverty masks the battle and make it that much harder to fight. The real battle facing Belizeans, is our self image. We walk around talking about how proud we are and every pan whe knack we show it off and shake our asses. But the truth is, we don’t live it. How many things are you doing just because that’s how your mom did it and your granny did it and her ma before her? Stop blaming everything and everybody else. It is easy to say it’s tv. It’s easy to say it’s the Americans. It is easy to say it’s the government, the teachers, the church…you get my point. Did we forget we are part of all of that???? Let’s not demonize anyone or anything. There is good in everything and a purpose for all. I’m sick and tired of hearing the blame game. We can’t all become political activists. We can’t all volunteer. (Let’s be honest, some of us just don’t work well with others LOL)But there is something we can definitely do and that is, take responsibility for what we do as parents, friends, citizens. Start with ourselves. You wanna have a voice? Know what you are talking about. Go read something. Go talk to people who know. That’s free. It costs your time and effort. And the payoff will benefit generations. Stop whining and put on your big girl panties!!!!!!

Who cares what Beyonce named her kid? What if you named your kid what you really called him/her? oooh I don’t know: lil shit, maddaf’r, goddamned pickney…see? Stop being a hypocrite!!! It’s none of your business and it reaaaaalllly doesn’t matter. I mean, we don’t need another Shaniqua or Porsche do we???? If you can believe it when I named my daughter Mia, people gave me flack…and now every other kid is named Mia, Maya….so whateves!!!!!
HAPPY MONDAY MORNING Y’ALL!!!!!! GET TO GETTIN’!!!!!!
